School Song

There’s a school on the side of a hill

On a slope running down to the sea

It’s a place we love, we learn and we play

And our spirit runs free

Chorus:

Tamboerskloof our heart belongs to you

For Tamboerskloof our best we’ll always do

Truthfulness and loyalty

Honour and sincerity

To you our school be true.

The Family School In The City

Situated on the side of a hill between Lion’s Head and Signal Hill, Tamboerskloof Primary School continues to flourish, as it has done for the past 107 years.

Established in a house in 1903 with forty children and one teacher, the school now accommodates 440 children and has a staffing complement of over 30.

Affectionately known to the pupils as “Tambi”, this school has a fine tradition as a caring, family-style school.  We call it “The Family School in the City”.

We try to create a homely, disciplined environment and a sound, enjoyable, all round education.  A respect for sound moral values is insisted upon, as reflected in the words of our school song, namely truthfulness, loyalty, honour and sincerity.

Our motto is “Strive to Succeed”.  Tambi children are always encouraged to do their best.

Each child is encouraged to participate in school life, with the emphasis on enjoyment.  We offer a variety of sports, including ball skills, table-tennis, cricket, soccer, netball, swimming, athletics and cross-country.  We also offer computer training, drama lessons, arts and crafts and physical education to our Foundation Phase learners.

We offer an up-to-date curriculum, and our staff are involved in an ongoing staff development programme.

Our parents are involved in the life of the school by serving on our Governing Body or PTA Fundraising Committee, and by attending various school functions.

Our school has an Aftercare Centre which is run by a dedicated staff.  The children make use of a well-equipped playground and the swimming pool.

Our sports matches are played on St Michael’s Field, which boasts a well-kept turf cricket pitch.  This field has a spectacular view of the city and Table Mountain.

The clubs and societies include the quiz team, computer club, book appreciation, music appreciation, extra art group and the Environmental Club.

Tambi has a well-equipped and up-to-date computer centre.

Our Tambi pupils visit various places of interest, while our Grade 5, 6 and 7 classes attend an annual outdoor education camp.

Our music, art and drama departments produce work of outstanding quality, while we have an excellent, well-resourced library which is one of the focal points of the school.

Our main aim is to provide a happy, sound education in a homely, caring environment for our Tambi boys and girls.

We are proud of  Tambi, the Family School in the City.  Long may it continue to serve the children of Cape Town.
